As
a part of our MISSION to provide innovative and need-based financial products/services
to our customers particularly in rural and semi urban areas, leveraging technology
Andhra Bank has made substantial investments in the area of Information Technology.
At Andhra Bank, it is our endeavor to ensure that all the benefits of our investments are percolated down to the lowest strata of the society. When mobile phone can break the barriers, why not banking? The concept of ATM - across the board – has changed the scenario of banking and currently more than 50 per cent of customer transactions are migrated from branch banking to ATMs.
Our continuous research in exploration of new products leveraging information and communication technology resulted in bringing out a unique concept of MOBILE ATM with biometric features and it goes a long way in extending technological channels of banking to rural and semi-urban areas.
While inaugurating the Mobile ATM facility Shri P. Chidambaram, Hon’ble Union Finance Minister, Government of India commended the initiative of Andhra Bank and put on record “I am happy to launch the first ABMobile. As part of “Inclusive Banking” Andhra Bank has launched a number of new products and services closely following the successful public issue. Their efforts deserve to be warmly applauded.”
Bank at your doorstep
MOBILE ATM is equipped with a marketing point
- the initiative first of its kind - to take banking services to the doorsteps
of the customer, particularly in rural areas. The bank official who travels
along with the ATM uses this mobile office to educate the rural people about
banking and to inculcate banking habit among them to bring the unbanked into
the mainstream paving way for FINANCIAL INCLUSION.
The mobile ATM tours in specified pre-published/publicized routes to facilitate the ATM/Debit cardholders to withdraw cash and to have information on various products of the Bank suitable to their needs.
Taking the queue, we have introduced new products like ATM compatible KISAN CARDS, ATMs with voice guidance and finger print based biometrics for illiterate customers. The biometric is used as a substitute for the conventional four digit numeric PIN on ATMs.
MOBILE BIOMETRIC ATMs
After the success of MOBILE ATM, we have improvised the concept and introduced biometric features on the mobile ATM thus become the first bank in the country to introduce switch linked networked BIOMETRIC ATMs.
Sri K. Rosaiah, Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Andhra Pradesh flagged off Andhra Bank's Mobile Biometric ATMs in Hyderabad on 21.05.2007. The Bank has rolled out two mobile biometric ATMs to be operated in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad which would tour the locations scheduled by RBI. For biometric access, customers have to register their finger prints with the account branch of the Bank. The mobile ATM identifies the customer on the basis of his/her finger print registered in the system. However, apart from the personal identification number (PIN) facility, the customer would also be guided by voice in local languages on how to operate the ATM.
While inaugurating the facility Sri. K. Rosaiah, Minister for Finance, AP said that mobile biometric ATMs would go a long way in achieving financial inclusion.
“Besides, many educated customers are preferring biometric ATMs as it adds to the safety and security of their money. Keeping this in view, we are planning to take this technology to the masses. Andhra Bank is the first bank in the country to launch mobile biometric ATMs. We will soon expand this to other places" Dr. Ramakrishnan, Chairman & Managing Director of the Bank told at the inaugural function of these ATMs.
Salient Features of Mobile Biometric ATM
The biometric ATMs cater to the needs of illiterate and semi-literate people as it works on finger print of the account holder which is scanned at the time of issue of ATM card.
The ATM provides audio instructions in Telugu colloquial language to the account holder for easy operations. The voice guidance facility can be configured as per the required local languages for easy operation by the people belong to different states.
The ATM has dual facility of PIN as well as finger prints operation.
The ATM will be halted at different locations as per the week's schedule approved by RBI.
The ATM will cover essentially un-banked or under-banked regions.
